Sibutramine is a substance that can change the chemistry of the brain to suppress appetite. In January this year the Italian Drug Agency (AIFA) has provided the suspension of sale and use of medications containing this drug because of side effects, especially in patients with cardiovascular disease.
Data from a study published this week on New England Journal of Medicine further validates the choice made by the AIFA. More than numbers, however, are the words of ' editorial accompanying the scientific work to perhaps put an end to the use of this medicine: "It' s difficult to find credible reasons to keep this drug on the market " writes three editors of the authoritative magazine.
